BMW Manufacturing Co. announced today that the export value of its passenger vehicles through the Port of Charleston in 2015 totaled $9.8 Billion, confirming the company’s South Carolina facility as the leading U.S. automotive exporter by value.
BMW Manufacturing recorded its largest annual production in 2015. Exactly 400,904 X-models rolled off the line last year making the South Carolina plant the largest volume producer in the company’s global production network. This achievement represents a 15% increase over the production volume for 2014 (349,949). In 2015, the plant exported 70% (281,256) of the total volume to over 140 countries around the globe.

Josef Kerscher, who since 2007 has been President of BMW Manufacturing Co. in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will assume new responsibilities as Managing Director of BMW Plant Dingolfing in Bavaria, Germany. Taking over from Kerscher at Spartanburg will be Manfred Erlacher, currently Managing Director of BMW Plant Leipzig in Saxony, Germany. The handover takes place November 1, 2013.

BMW Manufacturing Announces Leadership Change McCraw promoted to Vice President, Finance and Production Control
BMW Manufacturing announced today that Sherry Coonse McCraw has been named the new Vice President responsible for Finance and Production Control. She replaces Sean Noonan who will relocate to Munich with planning and steering responsibility for the company’s real estate portfolio. McCraw, a 20-year veteran of BMW’s plant in South Carolina, has been instrumental in leading the plant’s major expansion investments throughout her tenure.
BMW Manufacturing achieved another record production year. Annual production of 301,519 vehicles marks 2012 as the highest production volume in the South Carolina plant’s 19-year history. This represents a 9% increase over the production volume for 2011 (276,065). Since 2010, the plant’s production output has increased by 90% (159,284).
BMW Manufacturing celebrated the official opening of its new Associate Family Health Center at its South Carolina plant. The Center is a first-class facility, employing highly-trained professionals and offering the latest in healthcare technology. Use of the facility is available to all BMW Associates, eligible retirees and their dependants.
National Award: For the second consecutive year, BMW Manufacturing has been recognized as the Exporter of the Year by the National Association of Foreign Trade Zones (NAFTZ). In addition, the NAFTZ recognized BMW as the recipient of its Export Achievement Award for being the member that showed the most improvement value. As our plant has grown over the years, we have steadily increased our export activity. According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce, based on the 2011 value of BMW exports from South Carolina, Plant Spartanburg is the nation’s largest automotive exporter to global markets.
