BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs Hole Ranks Toughest on Nationwide Tour

GREENVILLE, S.C. - 11/30/2005

Three Holes in Top-Five; Five Holes in Top-15 For the second year in a row, a hole from the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament ranks as the toughest hole on the Nationwide Tour.

The 465-yard, Par 4, hole No. 7 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove was this year’s toughest hole on tour. Last year’s winner, the 250-yard, Par 3, hole No. 17 at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards, ranked fourth, followed in fifth place by the 420-yard, Par 4, hole No. 4 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. Hole No. 15 at Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club came in second. Hole No. 17 at Royal Adelaide Golf Club ranked third.

The 229-yard, Par 3, hole No. 5 at the Cliffs at Walnut Cove ranked as the seventh toughest hole, and the 178-yard, Par 3, hole No. 2 at The Cliffs Valley course ranked 13th toughest.

Rankings are based on the average over par score registered by Nationwide Tour players (see chart below).

“This says a lot about our tournament,” said Darin MacDonald, tournament director of the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament. “A tough course is an exciting course, and a win at a tough course means that much more to our champions. We feel our tournament really helps prepare these players to compete on the PGA TOUR.”

“This is a great accolade to be given, and we’re honored,” said Ken Costanzo, chief operating officer for The Cliffs Communities. “Having three of the top five ‘toughest holes’ on the Nationwide Tour is a testament to the quality of our courses, in design and maintenance, and the serious investment that we have put into them throughout the years.”

The Cliffs Communities (www.cliffsgolf.com) has played host to the BMW Charity Pro-Am since 2001, expanding the tournament in 2005 to include its new Jack Nicklaus Signature course, The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. The Cliffs’ family of golf courses includes six, world-class 18-hole courses and is the only private club membership in the country offering two Jack Nicklaus Signature and two Tom Fazio championship golf courses. In addition to the Nationwide Tour, The Cliffs’ courses have been recognized with accolades by industry-leading publications such as Golf Digest, LINKS and Travel + Leisure Golf.

The 2006 BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament will be played April 27-30, 2006 at The Cliffs Valley, The Cliffs at Walnut Cove and The Cliffs and Keowee Vineyards golf courses. All four rounds will be televised live by The Golf Channel.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs is the only tournament on the Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a three-day better-ball competition. Amateurs, celebrities and pros will rotate between each of the three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round. Celebrities will play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $112,500 from the total purse of $625,000, which is one of the largest purses on the Nationwide Tour. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.

The first five tournaments have raised more than $3 million for area charities.
