BMW Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament Charities to Receive 75% Back From Ticket Sales

GREENVILLE, S.C. - 01/08/2002

Each of the 44 Upstate and Western N.C. charities that were selected as beneficiaries of the 2002 BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament will receive $15 (75%) back from every $20 general admission ticket that it sells.

In order for the charities to receive $15 back, tickets much be purchased directly from the charity. Charities have already begun selling tickets to the April 25-28, 2002 tournament.

“Partnering with these charities is a wonderful way to utilize their resources throughout the community, plus it allows the charities to get more involved in this ‘happening’ in a visible and dynamic manner,” said Doug McGrath, General Chairman of the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs. “Along with monies they may receive from the proceeds of the tournament, they can now earn additional dollars based on how many tickets they sell or are sold on their behalf.

“The creation of this highlights the main goals of the event, which are raising money for charity, generating enthusiasm and awareness for the event, and showcasing the beauty and hospitality of the Upstate and Western N.C. By each charity getting as involved as possible, this tournament has broadened its appeal. With some top name stars participating, The Cliffs is where you are going to want to be the last week of April.”

The BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs will be played at Cliffs Valley and The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards courses April 25-28, 2002. It is the only BUY.COM TOUR event that features professionals paired with an amateur/celebrity partner in a two-day best-ball competition. The 12 best teams (eight best Pro-Celeb and four best Pro-Am) advance to play for the BMW Charity Cup on Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $94,500 from the total purse of $525,000, while the amateurs/celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice.

Coming off of a stellar event that brought actor Kevin Costner and future NFL Hall-of-Fame quarterback Dan Marino to the Upstate, last April’s inaugural tournament raised $500,000 for 30 charities. That is a record on the PGA TOUR for the most money ever raised from a first-time BUY.COM event.
