BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation Announces Celebrity Commitments for 2011
Celebrity commitments for the 11th annual BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation were announced today during the tournament’s Media Day. Included in the list are the following first-time participants: actor Jeffrey Donovan of USA Network’s Burn Notice, Retired Formula 1 driver Danny Sullivan, actor Andy Buckley of NBC’s The Office, actor Bruce Greenwood of National Treasure: Book of Secrets, actor Rob Morrow of CBS’s Numb3rs and Clemson Head Basketball Coach Brad Brownell.
Twenty-two celebrities, including actors, musicians and athletes, are scheduled to participate in this year’s tournament. Joining Donovan, Sullivan, Buckley, Greenwood, Morrow and Brownell are Lucas Black, Mark Bryan, Don Felder, Oliver Hudson, Josh Kelley, Greg Kinnear, Cheech Marin, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Pena, Joe Pesci, Jerry Rice, Joe Don Rooney, Kevin Sorbo, Gary Valentine, Patrick Warburton and Luke Wilson.
“This year’s line up of celebrities is as good top to bottom as we’ve ever had,” said Tournament Director Darin MacDonald. “Many of the fan favorites are returning, and we’ve got some exciting first-timers. The corporate sponsors and spectators are in for a treat.”
Actor Lucas Black is known for his recent roles in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Legion. As a child he appeared in Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thorton and The War alongside Kevin Costner. This will be Black’s third time playing in the tournament.
Mark Bryan is a founding member, songwriter and the guitar player for multi-platinum Hootie & the Blowfish. This will be Bryan’s third time playing in the tournament.
Brad Brownell is the current head basketball coach at Clemson University. Prior to coming to Clemson, he held the same position at Wright State and UNC Wilmington. During his first season as head coach, Brownell led the Tigers to the first round of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. This will be Brownell’s first time playing in the tournament.
Actor Andy Buckley is well known for his recurring role on NBC’s The Office where he plays bossman David Wallace. Buckley has recently appeared in films such as Life As We Know It with Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl and The Other Guys with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. This will be Buckley’s first time playing in the tournament.
Actor Jeffrey Donovan is known for his starring role in USA Network’s Burn Notice as well as supporting roles in movies such as Hitch with Will Smith and Changeling with Angelina Jolie. This will be his first appearance.
World renowned musician Don Felder was one of the five members and former lead guitarist of the rock group the Eagles for 27 years and wrote the music for their biggest hit, the multi Grammy award winning song “Hotel California.” With 14 Grammy nominations and four wins, his signature guitar work has become legendary on songs like “Hotel California,” “Life In The Fast Lane,” “One Of These Nights,” “New Kid In Town” and more. This will be Felder’s second time playing in the tournament.
Actor Bruce Greenwood has starred in dozens of films and TV series since the late 70s, including recent roles in Dinner For Schmucks, Star Trek, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and iRobot. This will be Greenwood’s first time playing in the tournament.
Actor Oliver Hudson currently stars in the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement alongside David Spade and fellow tournament participant Patrick Warburton. This will be Hudson’s fourth time playing in the tournament.
Musician Josh Kelley has spent the majority of the past decade as a successful pop and adult contemporary artist. Kelley made his official debut into the country genre in March 2011 with his album Georgia Clay. This will be Josh’s third time playing in the tournament.
Greg Kinnear was the first host of E! Entertainment’s Talk Soup. He’s since had roles in movies such as You’ve Got Mail with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, Little Miss Sunshine with Steve Carell and Toni Collette and As Good As It Gets for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. This will be Kinnear’s third time playing in the tournament.
Cheech Marin is best known as one half of the hilariously irreverent, satirical, counter-culture, no-holds-barred duo Cheech and Chong. He is also known for his role as Don Johnson’s partner, Insp. Joe Dominguez, on CBS’s Nash Bridges. He has also voiced characters in several Disney movies, including The Lion King and Cars. This will be Marin’s seventh time playing in the tournament.
As an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, Rob Morrow is a critically acclaimed actor, writer, and director with an established career in television spanning more than three decades. He is well known for his role on the early 90s TV series Northern Exposure and for his recent role on CBS’s Numb3rs. This will be Morrow’s first time playing in the tournament.
Terry O’Quinn is most famous for his role as John Locke on the TV series LOST, for which he won an Emmy in 2007. O’Quinn has also had minor supporting roles in films and TV movies, including Young Guns, as well as guest roles on TV shows such as The West Wing and JAG. This will be O’Quinn’s third time playing in the tournament.
Actor Michael Pena can be seen alongside Matthew McConaughey in 2011’s The Lincoln Lawyer as well as the action thriller Battle: Los Angeles. Some of Pena’s most popular films include Shooter with Mark Wahlberg and Crash with Don Cheadle. This will be Pena’s fourth time playing in the tournament.
Actor Joe Pesci began acting as a child in the early 60s. During his career he’s had unforgettable roles in films such as Goodfellas, My Cousin Vinny, Raging Bull and Casino. This will be Pesci’s second time playing in the tournament.
Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver ever and one of the greatest players in NFL history. Inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2010, Rice is the all-time leader in every major statistical category for wide receivers. For the second year in a row Rice will compete as a professional in the tournament.
Joe Don Rooney is the lead guitarist and harmony singer in the multi-platinum-selling country-pop group Rascal Flatts. Rooney has released six studio albums as well as a greatest hits album with the band. This will be Rooney’s third time playing in the tournament.
Actor Kevin Sorbo is most famous for his role in the hit series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Sorbo has also appeared on several hit television shows such as Dharma & Greg and Murder, She Wrote. In 2008, Sorbo appeared in the spoof film Meet the Spartans, which opened at No. 1 at the U.S. box office charts. This will be Sorbo’s sixth time playing in the tournament.
Danny Sullivan is a former racing driver most famous for his dramatic win at the 1985 Indianapolis 500. Sullivan beat Mario Andretti by 2.5 seconds despite spinning a full 360 degrees between the first and second turn when battling with Andretti on lap 120. This will be Sullivan’s first time playing in the tournament.
Actor and comedian Gary Valentine has appeared in films such as Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Valentine had a reoccurring role on the CBS comedy The King of Queens alongside his real-life brother Kevin James. This is Valentine’s fifth time participating in the tournament.
Actor Patrick Warburton currently stars alongside David Spade and fellow tournament participant Oliver Hudson in the CBS comedy Rules of Engagement. He is also famous for his role as David Puddy on the hit TV series Seinfeld. This is Warburton’s third time participating in the tournament.
Actor Luke Wilson has played opposite several of Hollywood’s leading ladies including Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Simpson and Uma Thurmond. Some of his films include Old School, The Royal Tenenbaums and Legally Blond. This will be Wilson’s second time playing in the tournament.
The 2011 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be played May 19-22, at Bright’s Creek Golf Club, The Carolina Country Club and Thornblade Club golf courses.
The first 10 tournaments have raised nearly $8 million for 150+ charities.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation is the only tournament on the PGA TOUR’s Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. Celebrities play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $108,000 from the total purse of $600,000. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.
