BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation Makes 2016 Announcements.

Greenville, SC - 11/19/2015

Today officials from the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation revealed that BMW and the PGA TOUR have reached a three-year agreement that will bring the Web.com Tour tournament to the Upstate community through 2018. It was also revealed that the 2016 tournament will take place May 19-22, and the new three-day host course will be The Preserve at Verdae, joining Thornblade Club and The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

The commitment between BMW Manufacturing and the PGA TOUR to bring the Web.com Tour’s most unique event to the area for three more years is great news for the Upstate. With BMW as title sponsor, the tournament has generated and distributed over $11.5 million to more than 200 charities in 15 years. The economic impact data for the tournament is also compelling.

A 2013 economic impact study by Clemson University’s International Institute of Tourism Research and Development estimated that the tournament annually generates total direct spending of $4.712 million, supports 139 jobs, generates net local government revenues of $541,048 and net state government revenues of $868,479, and yields $6.744 million in total output/ impact.

“BMW, SYNNEX and other sponsors participate in the tournament because it provides distinct opportunities for charitable giving,” said Bob Nitto, president of the tournament. “As sponsors, we also participate because of the significant economic impact the tournament has on the Upstate community. Events like the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament naturally enhance our existing day-to-day corporate citizenship and philanthropic activities. It’s great to know that the tournament’s impact will continue for another three years.”

Adding to the excitement of the three-year deal is the announcement of the tournament’s newest course—The Preserve at Verdae.

The Preserve at Verdae, just five miles from downtown Greenville where much of the tournament’s nightlife occurs, is located in the hub of one of the community’s fastest growing areas.

In April 2014, Verdae Development officials announced “a plan to redevelop more than 100 acres stretching between Laurens and Woodruff Road–radically changing the look and feel of one of Greenville’s oldest commercial corridors.” The officials also said, “this mixed-use project is one of the city’s largest commercial enhancement projects in terms of acreage in years and will feature improved streetscape design, connectivity/walkability to a proposed trail connecting to downtown and provide more access between Hollingsworth Park and the surrounding shopping centers.”

“We are very happy to participate in today’s announcement about this three-year extension of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation,” said Web.com Tour president Bill Calfee. “The Web.com Tour has enjoyed an excellent relationship with BMW since they came on board in 2001. BMW, with SYNNEX’s support the last six years, has raised the tournament profile and its charitable impact considerably – $759,000 this year alone. We thank both companies for their commitment and support and look forward to continuing to elevate the tournament in the coming years. We would also like to welcome The Preserve at Verdae to the lineup of host courses for the BMW Charity Pro-am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. I’m sure our players will enjoy competing there.

The Preserve at Verdae is a par 72 championship golf course designed by Willard Byrd, carved into a lush Carolina forest with hills and mountain-like brooks, making the course both scenic and challenging to play. The Preserve’s mission is “striving for harmony between golf and nature” and because of these efforts, received the Environmental Leaders in Golf – Resort Division, from the Golf Course Superintendents Association and Golf Digest.  The Preserve is part of the Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center which features 268 guest suites, extensive event venues along with tennis, swimming pools and resort amenities. The resort is situated on over 100 acres in Verdae development located in the heart of mid-town Greenville.

Located in the picturesque valleys and foothills on the Eastside of Greenville, S.C., Thornblade Club is a private, full-service, family-oriented golf and country club dedicated to providing members with superior service, recreational amenities, and a social community. Its master planned 18-hole golf course, designed by Tom Fazio, is the centerpiece for a magnificent residential community. The course was renovated and lengthened in the summer of 2010, with new greens, a new drainage system, laser-leveled tees, additional tees, renovated cart paths, and beautiful rock walls. The 2016 tournament will be Thornblade Club’s ninth year as a host course.

Created in 2000 by Greenwood Communities and Resorts, The Reserve at Lake Keowee is an award-winning residential community that spans 3,900 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with 30 miles of shoreline on Lake Keowee and convenient access to nationally-recognized commercial and cultural centers that include Greenville, S.C.; Clemson, S.C.; Asheville, N.C.; and Clemson and Furman Universities. A 200-slip Marina, Village Center, Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and more than 1,400 acres of parks, preserves, trails, and green spaces highlight more than $100 million in completed family amenities at The Reserve. The 2016 tournament will be The Reserve at Lake Keowee’s fourth year as a host course.
