BMW Manufacturing Corp. Procurement VP dies
Klaus Atzler, 57, Vice President of Procurement North America, died today in Munich while on a business trip.
Born October 5, 1944 in Bad Flinsberg, Germany, Mr. Atzler received his Masters from Business and Economics College, Pforzheim, Germany, in 1971 in Purchasing and Material Management. Mr. Atzler, who maintained a home in Munich, lived with his family in Greenville, South Carolina. His wife, Mrs. Renate Atzler and a daughter, Judith, and a son, Florian, survive him.
Mr. Atzler spent his entire life in the automotive industry beginning his career at Porsche AG as a trainee in 1971 and became director of purchasing in 1975. In 1978, he joined the procurement department at ZF AG (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen).
He joined BMW in 1982 as head of purchasing at the BMW engine plant in Steyr, Austria. In 1986, he moved to Munich to be purchasing director for interior and exterior parts for all BMW models worldwide. He was appointed Vice President at BMW Manufacturing Corp. in Spartanburg, SC in January 2000, where he was responsible for all purchasing for BMW subsidiaries in North America.
