BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle Takes Top Honors
BMW’s X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, built exclusively at BMW Manufacturing Co. in Upstate S.C. for the world, took top honors in the Off-road and SUV category given by Auto Bild magazine. The award was presented last night at the Geneva Auto Show.
Auto Bild is one of the world’s premiere automotive publications and named vehicles in six leading categories (the BMW 3 Series Coupe was named the top vehicle in the Sportwagon/Coupe category). A total of 200,000 readers in 24 countries voted and the top three vehicles in each category were test driven in the semi-final round. The BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle beat out the Audi A6 Allroad and the Hyundai Santa Fe.
In January, the plant was named a 2006 Top Plant by Plant Engineering magazine. In February, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named BMW Manufacturing and partner Drr Systems, Inc., as joint recipients of the Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) “Energy Partner of the Year” award.
BMW Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of the BMW Group based in Munich, Germany, is the exclusive manufacturer of the Z4 and M Roadster, Z4 and M Coupe in addition to the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. Its website address is www.bmwusfactory.com. In addition to the South Carolina manufacturing facility, BMW’s North American subsidiaries include sales, marketing and financial services operations in the United States, Canada and throughout Latin America, and a design firm in California.
