Disaster Relief Fund Reaches $30,000; BMW Group Pledges 10 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles
The disaster relief fund established by associates at BMW Manufacturing Corp. – along with the company’s match – has reached $30,000, while the Red Cross Motorcycle Rally, held at the Zentrum this past weekend, raised almost $100,000 for local Red Cross chapters and the American Red Disaster Relief Fund.
The associate fundraising drive will continue until October 31. BMW Manufacturing has agreed to match each dollar that associates contribute. The money will be contributed to the South Carolina Cares fund, which is to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Earlier this week, the BMW Group companies in America committed $2.4 million in cash and vehicles to the relief efforts. The company donated $1 million in cash and 10 X5 sports activity vehicles to the Red Cross. And 100 police motorcycles will be given to the City of New York to help replace those lost in the New York Police Department motor pool located near the World Trade Center.
“We at the Red Cross are just overwhelmed with the kind response of BMW and its associates who have joined our efforts with leadership gifts,” said Meridith Bolado of American Red Cross headquarters in Washington.
Production of the X5s has begun, and the vehicles should be ready to be shipped to New York no later than the first week of October. All 10 X5s will have:
Alpine White exterior
American Red Cross decals
Beige leatherette interior
3.0 Liter six-cylinder engine
Retractable load floor
The X5s will be shipped to the BMW Manhattan dealer center.
