Donation Total for BMW Charity Pro-Am Presented by SYNNEX Corporation Reaches New Milestone.
Breaking the $12 million mark for dollars raised since its inception in 2001, representatives from 18 local charities gathered this afternoon at Hall’s Chophouse to accept donations generated by the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. Today’s presentation of checks equaling $676,252 brings the 16-year total of funds raised by the tournament to $12.1 million.
“Months of hard work lead us each May to a four-day exciting event that has great impact to the Upstate,” said Bob Nitto, president, BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. “This brings us to today, as we proudly award these charities with funds generated from our event that will help them continue their very important individual missions.”
The tournament also awarded $11,200 in non-cash contributions to philanthropic organizations during the 2016 tournament year.
“The visibility that this tournament brings not only to the Upstate but also to the wonderful organizations that support the needs of our community is amazing,” said Jayne McQueen, Executive Director, Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. “The participants are not just playing a game of golf, and the spectators are not just enjoying a day on the course – they are all supporting our ability to raise a portion of the money we need to feed approximately 1,500 of our most frail and homebound neighbors, and for that we are grateful.”
To assist the non-profits, the tournament provides risk-free opportunities to earn funds through three programs: ticket sales, volunteer recruitment and one-day pro-am team sales.
“Thanks to the wonderful volunteers who have donated their time in our name, the funds we’ve received from the tournament have increased over the past couple of years – which is thrilling,” said Tracy McReynolds, Director of Donor Development, Greenville Shriners Hospital. “Last year, we were able to provide critical training for our Physical Therapy staff with the dollars donated by the tournament. This year, the money will make it possible for us to afford essential education for the clinicians – which will ultimately make a remarkable difference in the lives of the children we serve.”
The selected charities address a wide range of needs, including services for veterans and affordable housing for those in need. The 2016 benefiting charities included: BMW Car Club of America Foundations, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greenville, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Greenville Tech Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, National Christian College Athletic Association, New Foundations Home for Children, Palmetto Animal Assisted Life’s Services, Project Hope Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, Shriners Hospital for Children—Greenville, SYNNEX Share the Magic, The First Tee of Greenville, The Reserve at Lake Keowee Foundation, Upstate Warrior Solutions, and Urban League of the Upstate.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will return May 15-21, 2017, with tournament rounds slated for May 18-21.
