Edwin McCain Concert; Celebrity Walk to Highlight Week of Special Events in Support of BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs Golf Tournament
Award-winning musician Edwin McCain is scheduled to perform at The Peace Center Amphitheatre, Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m. The concert is a way for McCain to support the 44 Upstate and western N.C. charities benefiting from the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament, which will be played April 25-28 at Cliffs Valley and The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards golf courses.
Fans are also expected to gather around the Westin Poinsett Hotel, Thursday evening, April 25, between 8-9 p.m. where the 25 celebrities participating in the event will assemble. Dubbed the Celebrity Walk of Fame, this is a great opportunity for fans to meet and greet their favorite celebrities, such as Kevin Costner, John Elway, Johnny Bench, McCain and others. The first 400 people to arrive will receive free Fuji cameras to take pictures of the celebrities.
“I really appreciate the opportunity to be involved in the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs again this year,” McCain, a Greenville native, said. “I had a fantastic time last year, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to assist worthy charities. Since both my family and I still call South Carolina home, I’m glad to do my part for local charities.”
A limited number of general admission tickets are available for McCain’s concert at the box office for $20. Seating begins at 6 p.m. For more information on concert tickets, contact The Peace Center box office at 467-3000.
Opening for McCain will be the Red Hitt Band, a Charleston trio of multi-instrumentalists performing a new genre of music described as “neo-soul rock and roll.”
McCain recently released his fourth album on Atlantic Records, titled “Far From Over…”. His other three albums are: “Messenger”, “Misguided Roses” and “Honor Among Thieves,” which was his first full-length effort and debuted at No. 1 on Soundscan’s “Top New Artist” albums chart in 1995. Aside from achieving both gold and platinum records, McCain has earned top 40 hits with his songs, “I’ll be,” “I could not ask for more,” and ” Solitude,” which also featured Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker.
McCain’s concert and the Celebrity Walk of Fame will highlight a week of activities surrounding the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament. Last year’s event turned out to be more than fans were expecting as Rudy and Steve Gatlin of the country music band The Gatlin Brothers joined McCain on stage, as well as baseball great Bench and actor John O’Hurley. Most of the celebrities, too, enjoyed the downtown nightlife, dining out in restaurants, shopping along Main St. and talking to fans.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament is the only BUY.COM TOUR event that features professionals paired with an amateur/celebrity partner in a two-day best-ball competition. The 12 best teams (eight best Pro-Celeb and four best Pro-Am) advance to play for the BMW Charity Cup on Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $94,500 from the total purse of $525,000, while the amateurs/celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice.
Celebrities that are scheduled to participate in the tournament include: McCain; actor Kevin Costner; actor and Charleston native Thomas Gibson, who plays Greg on the TV series Dharma and Greg; future NFL Hall-of-Famer John Elway; actor John O’Hurley, who played J. Peterman on the hit TV series Seinfeld; Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famers Johnny Bench and Mike Schmidt; Rudy and Steve Gatlin of the country music band The Gatlin Brothers; and Jennifer Mills, a Greenville native who is currently an anchor/reporter for The Golf Channel. More celebrities will be announced in the coming weeks.
Coming off of a stellar inaugural event, last April’s tournament raised $500,000 for 30 Upstate and western N.C. charities. That is a record on the PGA TOUR for the most money ever raised from a first-time BUY.COM event.
