Johnson to Head Sponsor Relations for BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs Golf Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. - 02/08/2002

Kathryn Bellows Johnson has been named Sponsor Relations Ambassador for the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament. Johnson will serve on a volunteer basis.

Johnson, a graduate of Furman University, currently is the Director of Events Marketing for The Cliffs Golf & Country Clubs where she promotes the four Cliffs properties for business retreats and wedding/social events. She has spent 10 years in the private club industry.

“My job is to make sure that our sponsors receive the incredible southern hospitality that makes this event truly unique,” Johnson said. “Their contribution is a significant reason why this event takes place and allows us to raise money for charities. Without them our good works wouldn’t be possible.”

The BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs golf tournament is the only BUY.COM TOUR event that features professionals paired with an amateur/celebrity partner in a two-day best-ball competition. The 12 best teams (eight best Pro-Celeb and four best Pro-Am) advance to play for the BMW Charity Cup on Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $94,500 from the total purse of $525,000, while the amateurs/celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice. All four rounds will be televised live by The Golf Channel.

Coming off of a stellar inaugural event that brought actor Kevin Costner and future NFL Hall-of-Fame quarterback Dan Marino to the Upstate, last April’s tournament raised $500,000 for 30 Upstate and Western N.C. charities. That is a record on the PGA TOUR for the most money ever raised from a first-time BUY.COM event. South Carolina Charities, Inc., is in the process of determining which celebrities will participate in the 2002 tournament, although Marino and singer Edwin McCain have already committed.

General Admission tickets for the 2002 BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs can be purchased for $20 by calling (864) 660-1121. Clubhouse, Skybox and VIP tickets can be purchased for $100, $200, and $300 respectively. Other sponsorship opportunities are available as well. Proceeds benefit local charities.
