New Courses Highlight Changes for 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. - 08/22/2007

The BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament will be played on three new area courses, May 12-18, 2008, it was announced today by officials from South Carolina Charities, Inc. The past seven tournaments have all been held at The Cliffs Communities.

The tournament – a record-breaking attendance, revenue and charity-raising event on the Nationwide Tour – will be played at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg and Thornblade Club in Greenville, which will serve as the Sunday course and host the Golf Channel. A third course is still being negotiated for 2008. The tournament will now be known as The BMW Charity Pro-Am.

“We have been in discussion with Jim Anthony and The Cliffs for years on this possibility,” said Bobby Hitt, president of South Carolina Charities, Inc., and Chairman of The BMW Charity Pro-Am. “This was a mutual decision to move the tournament deeper into the community. The Cliffs have embraced the tournament for seven years and have helped us achieve many of our goals. Bringing the event into the community is a positive step for the tournament. The new courses will attract more fans and sponsors, make access easier for fans and players, and make it much easier to attend the evening events that we host. It will be a much more community-based tournament.”

“The Cliffs has been honored to host the BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs for the last seven years and we appreciate the many efforts of the volunteers and the Cliffs owners and associates that have devoted their time and energies to make this the premier tournament on the Nationwide Tour,” said Jim Anthony, president and founder of the Cliffs Communities. “We continue to enjoy our relationship with South Carolina Charities, Inc., and BMW Manufacturing and think this is an exciting opportunity for the entire upstate to experience and support.”

“Thornblade Club and our members and staff are proud to be a Host Site for the 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am,” said Fred Bentfeld, president of Thornblade Club. “Since its inception in 1989, Thornblade has developed a tradition of supporting charity events like Jay Haas’s Thornblade Classic, The Blade Junior Golf Classic and The Bi-Lo Charity Classic to help raise millions of dollars for local charities. The 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am promises to take that tradition to a new level.”

“I’m so very proud for our members and staff to be selected to host this premier event,” said Mike Wood, president of Carolina County Club. “Our club and the entire Spartanburg community will strive to produce a truly memorable tournament for all involved. We are indeed honored to be associated with BMW, South Carolina Charities and the Nationwide Tour.”

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only tournament on the Nationwide PGA Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide PGA Tour professionals in a three-day better-ball competition. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round. Celebrities play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $117,000 from the total purse of $650,000, which is one of the largest purses on the Nationwide Tour. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.

All four rounds will be televised live by the Golf Channel.

The first seven tournaments have raised more than $5.7 million for 80+ area charities.
