North Carolina’s Bright’s Creek Golf Club Named Third Course to Host BMW Charity Pro-Am

GREENVILLE, S.C. - 08/28/2007

Bright’s Creek Golf Club, located just outside of Tryon, N.C. in Mill Spring, has been named the third host course of the 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament. Bright’s Creek joins Thornblade Club in Greenville and Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg as the host courses for the Nationwide Tour’s premier event; a record-breaking attendance, revenue and charity-raising tournament that attracts world class celebrities from around the world. The tournament will be played May 15-18, 2008.

“The Upstate is just learning about this amazing Fazio-designed course,” said Bobby Hitt, president of South Carolina Charities, Inc., and Chairman of The BMW Charity Pro-Am. “Just minutes off I-26 in North Carolina, Bright’s Creek is the perfect complement to our other two courses. The course offers just the right blend of accessibility combined with the attractiveness of mountain golf. In addition, the new partnership with longtime Upstate business leader, Barton Tuck, is exciting for the tournament.”

“We are excited to be named a host club for the 2008 BMW Charity Pro-Am,” said Barton Tuck, CEO of Bright’s Creek Golf Club. “We look forward to welcoming BMW Manufacturing, Nationwide Tour professional golfers, volunteers and guests to our club to help raise money for charity.”

“Bright’s Creek will complement Thornblade Club and Carolina Country Club very well and help maintain the unique character of the BMW Charity Pro-Am,” said Nationwide Tour president Bill Calfee. “I’m confident Nationwide Tour players will enjoy their experiences at each of these courses next year.

All of us look forward to May and the new look and feel of the BMW Charity Pro-Am.”

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only tournament on the Nationwide PGA Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide PGA Tour professionals in a three-day better-ball competition. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between each of the three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $117,000 from the total purse of $650,000, which is one of the largest purses on the Nationwide Tour. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.

All four rounds will be televised live by the Golf Channel.

The first seven tournaments have raised more than $5.7 million for 80+ area charities.
