Retired NFL Wide Receiver Jerry Rice to Compete as a Professional in the 2010 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation
Officials of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation announced today that 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Rice will compete as a professional in the 2010 tournament.
This is the second time Rice has competed as a professional. His first tournament was last week at the Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae.
“After years of playing as an amateur, I was excited to launch my professional golf career at the Fresh Express Classic,” said Rice. “I look forward to playing on the East Coast in May at the BMW Charity Pro-Am.”
Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver ever and one of the greatest players in NFL history. The all-time leader in every major statistical category for wide receivers, including touchdowns scored (208). Rice was selected to the Pro Bowl 13 times (1986–1996, 1998, 2002) and named All-Pro 11 times in his 20 NFL seasons. He won three Super Bowl rings playing for the San Francisco 49ers and an AFC Championship with the Oakland Raiders. Rice will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 7, 2010. This will be his first appearance in the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation.
Rice joins 28 other celebrities in the 2010 line up including Catherine Bell, Lucas Black, Javier Colon, Jason Dohring, Don Felder, Thomas Gibson, Oliver Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Rob Marciano, Branford Marsalis, Dr. Phil McGraw, Jennifer Mills, Terry O’Quinn, Michael Pena, Dennis Quaid, Jim Rice, George Rogers, Joe Don Rooney, Kurt Russell, Stefanie Schaeffer, Sterling Sharpe, Kevin Sorbo, Kordell Stewart, Dabo Swinney, Paula Trickey, Gary Valentine, Patrick Warburton and Luke Wilson.
The 2010 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be played May 13-16, 2010, at Bright’s Creek Golf Club, The Carolina Country Club and Thornblade Club golf courses. All four rounds will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation is the only tournament on the PGA TOUR’s Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. Celebrities play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $108,000 from the total purse of $600,000. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.
