Volunteer Positions Still Available for the 2011 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation
Volunteer positions are still available for the 2011 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation golf tournament. Opportunities to volunteer include Hospitality, Marshal and Transportation at all courses and Walking Scorer at Bright’s Creek Golf Club and The Carolina Country Club.
Each year people of all ages and interests volunteer their time during tournament week. Parents and their children team up as walking scorers and standard bearers, giving them the chance to work side-by-side during their shifts. Then there are the automobile enthusiasts who volunteer on the tournament’s transportation committee in order to drive BMWs.
“You don’t have to know anything about golf to volunteer during the tournament; there’s a position for everyone,” said Tournament Director Darin MacDonald. “And it’s a great way to support a local charity and spend quality time with your spouse, friends or your children.”
Volunteers pay a $40 uniform package fee, which covers the cost of their uniform (polo shirt and headwear) and meals and also includes a Volunteer Credential, Guest Credential and an invitation to attend the volunteer celebration at the end of tournament week. Furthermore, volunteers who work two shifts during the tournament have the option of donating the $40 fee to the tournament charity of their choice. If you’re interested in donating your uniform package fee, notify the tournament office by calling (864) 297-1660.
To register, visit www.bmwcharitygolf.com and click on the Volunteer Registration tab on the left side of the website’s main page. From there, volunteers may choose to register online or via paper application. Directions for submitting online and paper applications are included on the website.
The volunteer registration fee is $40 for all who register prior to April 15, 2011. On April 15, the registration fee will increase to $50. Positions are subject to availability and tournament officials urge those interested to register at their earliest convenience.
The 26 charities that will have the opportunity to earn funds from the tournament are: 100 Black Men of the Upstate, A Child’s Haven, Alzheimer’s Association – SC Chapter, Blue Ridge Council Boy Scouts of America, Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, Charles Lea Center Foundation, Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), Citizen Scholars of Spartanburg County, Compass of Carolina, Dogs for Autism, First Tee of Greenville, Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE), Greer Middle College Charter High School, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad, Hidden Treasure Christian School, Hispanic-American Women’s Association (AHAM), Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Meals on Wheels of Greenville County, Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, Scottish Rite Foundation of SC, St. Joseph’s Catholic School, The Walker Foundation Supporting the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind and YMCA Camp Greenville.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation is the only tournament on the PGA TOUR’s Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. Celebrities play once at each course on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The professional winner of the overall 72-hole event will take home $108,000 from the total purse of $600,000. Amateurs and celebrities will compete for individual prizes and cash donations to the charity of their choice out of the beneficiaries selected by South Carolina Charities, Inc.
